un/controlled

Originally made for the exhibit ‘Anthropocene Transmissions’ at the Annex Gallery in Detroit, wherein, “Artists were asked to create an artwork that addresses their thoughts, interests, desires and concerns, if any, about nuclear power & nuclear weapons”.

Besides the nuclear connotation of controlled and uncontrolled reactions, the title of the film refers to what systems of power choose to do when in control, and how they deal with predicaments that are beyond control. Probable dystopian threats are normalized with propaganda, while nations accidentally bomb their own territories. Alternatives to nuclear energy, aimed to protect humanity, seem to come with the cost of immense human suffering. A very thin line has separated and continues to separate what we hold dear from utter destruction.
